Bryandale Girls Soccer Tournament

Bryneven Soccer

Last week Saturday, 3 June 2023. Our U11 and U14 Girl’s soccer teams participated in the Bryandale Primary Girls Soccer Tournament. The girls played against teams from 3 other schools with a gruelling 20 mins a match. Over 5/6 rounds of matches were played – some even being played one directly after another.

Both our girls’ teams certainly showed their mettle either winning or drawing their round robin matches to qualify for the semi-final and then the finals with both matches consisting of two halves of 15 mins each way. In total the girls played over 180 mins of soccer which is equal to two full 90 min games – all on the same morning.

It gave all in attendance great pleasure to see the quality of football demonstrated by our girls’ teams and was made even sweeter with both the U11 and the U14 girls winning their age divisions. Bryneven was also awarded the ‘Best Girls Soccer School’ Trophy along with 3 of our girls winning individual soccer awards. Well done to both set of players and their coaches and thank you to the parents who came to support our talented teams.

District Netball

Bryneven Netball

Last year we had only one team that progressed to the District Finals. This year we had 3 teams making it to the District rounds. Our U13 Netball team progressed to the quarter-final stage and we are very proud of our U10 and U12 Netball teams for making it to the Finals of the District Championships.

Joburg KO Cup – Soccer

The Joburg KO Cup is the largest soccer competition in the Joburg region with over 120 schools competing to be the champions in each of their respective age and gender groups. This year Bryneven had 6 teams reach the quarter-final stage of the KO cup (the most we have ever had and the most out of any Public school in the whole competition). After the quarter-finals, we have 4 teams competing in the Semi-final round (again the most we have ever had at this stage).

We wish our U11 and U14 Girls soccer teams all the best as they play in the Semi-final round tomorrow – Tuesday, 13 June and to our U9 and U10 Boys Soccer Teams who will be playing in their Semi-final matches on Thursday, 15 June 2023. On both days the venue will be Saheti College/Greek Sporting club. We wish all our teams the very best of luck as they seek to become Champions of Joburg.

Well done to the following learners who have been selected for the Far North Cricket Squad:

Under 11 – Nqubeko Thabethe and Lwambeso Mkuyana
Under 12 – Salathiel Panganai and Samuel Hahn
Under 13 – Sebastian Duigan

Andrew Mason (6A) represented Bryneven at the ‘My-Future-Piano Competition’ and made it through to the final round where the Top Five in the country competed for the overall prize.

This competition took place last week Tuesday, 6 June 2023 and we are very proud of Andrew as he was placed 2nd overall in the country in the Junior Section. (an interesting side note: the winner of the Senior section was none other than Chi Chi Juan, an ex-pupil of Bryneven).
